“For Petra, Mencho, and all of the Ojuelos families” – 3/6/24
A video dedicated to my grandma and the Hernandez family

Greetings, everyone.

My name is Daniel Mercy Hernandez, I’m 27 years old, and I’m a trans half-Mexican man who currently resides in Austin, Texas with my soulmate and partner Kacy and all our lil fur babies. Also, just to clarify, the way I choose to identify is not what solely defines me, so my feelings regarding them can’t be hurt. Save it or I’ll email Elon ur IP address. I have been an internet kid for as long as I can remember, and yet, the ins and outs of technology have always been way too complex for me to understand – or, so I thought.

While I maybe wasn’t great with actual tech stuff like coding, website design, etc, I have always been a curious individual who enjoys keeping up with current events and the news. Growing up in the land of the free, this is something that I assumed we were all used to, as I’m sure many others would agree.

However, my initial concerns with my privacy as an internet user began years ago, when the Cambridge Analytica scandal overran Facebook in order to secure Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential nomination. This company was also found guilty of using data and analytics to influence wars all throughout third world countries. To reiterate for emphasis, this was over 10 years ago.

When I realized that large tech companies that use technology similar to Cambridge Analytica (i.e. Facebook/Instagram meta, or Google utilizing “legitimate interest” analytics to track you without your consent…) were only going to become more rampant on the web, I began to care a lot more about my internet security.

I watched with caution, as our nation began to become more consumer-driven over the past ten years, and I kept up with worrisome acts that were passed/repealed, such as the Net Neutrality act that was repealed in 2018, and then again in 2024 when Donald Trump’s second… “presidency” or whatever, began. Just to emphasize the significance of this decision/debate, when the “FCC restored net neutrality rules that were rescinded during the Trump administration,… [it] ban[ned] ISPs such as AT&T, Comcast and Verizon from deliberately changing customer network speeds [moving forward]” as stated in the article. But uh, if you think that this is all these providers are able to deliberately do with your data, information, and access to the internet, then well – that makes one of us.
